It’s been a busy Roman Day for Otter and Squirrel Class! We kicked off the morning by designing and making mosaic bookmarks inspired by ancient mosaic artwork. After break, we delved into the fascinating world of Roman coins, creating our own out of clay. The children looked fantastic in their costumes! In the afternoon, we combined skills from DT, math, writing, and history to explore the importance of honey for sweetening foods and treating wounds. The students independently measured ingredients, cracked eggs (with not a shell in sight!), and mixed before shaping and baking delicious Roman honey biscuits. To top it all off, they participated in an archaeological dig, where they found and identified various Roman items. We can hardly believe we made mosaic bookmarks, used archaeological skills, created clay coins, learned some Roman numerals, baked honey biscuits, and wrote out the recipe all in one day!
